تاريخ مدينة سطيف
الكثير من الناس عندما يتحدث عن تاريخ مدينة سطيف يذكر فترة الرومان والوندال ثم البيزنطيين ثم يقفز بك إلى فترة الإستدمار الفرنسي ، مغيب فترة ذهبية عاشتها المدينة في ظل الحكم العربي الإسلامي سواء عن قصد أو غير قصد وهي الفترة الممتدة من بداية الفتح إلى حكم العثمانيين التي صارت فيها المدينة عبارة عن حامية عسكرية .
يقول البكري عن سطيف
(( ومدينة سطيف على مرحلتين من المسيلة وهي مدينة كبيرة جليلة
كان عليها سور خربته كتامة مع أبي عبد الله الشيعي ، لانها كانت في الأول لكتامة ثم غلبتهم عليها العرب ، وكانوا يعشرونهم إذا دخلوها، وهي اليوم دون سور لكنها عامرة كثيرة الاسواق رخيصة الاسعار، وبين سطيف والقيروان عشر مراحل ))
كان والي سطيف في ذلك الوقت من قبل الأغالبة علي بن جعفر المعروف بإبن عسلوجة من قبيلة أسد بن خزيمة الذي قتل مع اخيه حبيب بعد إجتياح المدينة من قبل عبد الله الفاطمي الشيعي وحلفائه قبائل كتامة فتم على إثر ذلك الإجتياح تدمير سور سطيف عام 904م .

It had a wall that was destroyed by Kutama with Abi Abdullah Al-Shi’i, because it was at the beginning of Kutama, then the Arabs overpowered them, and they used to live with them when they entered it.
The governor of Setif at that time was by the Aghlabids Ali bin Jaafar, known as Ibn Aslujah from the tribe of Asad bin Khuzayma, who was killed along with his brother Habib after the invasion of the city by Abdullah Al-Fatimi Shiite and his allies the Kutama tribes, and as a result of that, the invasion destroyed the Setif wall in 904 AD.
